Check Out Liv Bartlett’s Off Script

All authors have author friends. Some even hang out together inside bathroom stalls.

With a heart-shaped face and boyishly short hair, Rebecca, who writes as Liv Bartlett, burst into my life near the bathrooms of the Provo conference center during the 2017 Storymakers Conference leaving other authors to eat their basil and rosemary pork tenderloin without us. I, a debut author just gaining fans; she, the same. She thought it’d be a laugh to get a pic “stealing” the image of an author reading their very own book on the toilet, for use in the hashtag contest held on Twitter. She won. Of course she won.

YOU HAVE TO BOW DOWN TO CREATIVITY LIKE THAT.

Now she has a second book out (she beats me on this, the sucker).

Excerpt

“Josh wants me to approve the look of Eddie’s new fan site. We’ve officially moved him to top billing–part of the enticement to come back and not hit our director for poaching his girlfriend,” I explain to Nic when she stares too long.

“Gah, but Eddie won’t be single long. He’s . . . was he always so sexy or did you guys do this to him? I’d be embarrassed to look at him if my nonna were sitting nearby.”

“I think he was always this sexy, but his star has definitely risen.”

Edward Wolverton. Our breakout star. The whole series revolves around the villainy of his character, Dom. He was dating our starlet, but that exploded and landed Eddie in rehab. I’ve spent my summer being friend and confidante to bring him back to the Void fold.

Nic clicks away at the keyboard while I dig for a special edition Dark Knight Blu-ray. After a few minutes, she guffaws. “Oh, my word. His fangirls are voracious . . . .”

My Take

Liv Bartlett’s writing is smart and puts the reader on the front lines of the TV production world rather than lounging in the hazy state of an author daydreaming about TV production. And don’t forget about Edward Wolverton. A high maintenance OCD guy who stresses about a first date? That’s a tired cliche for a heroine, but a twist for a hero and he’s a hottie to boot.

Hope you check Off Script out! Leave a comment if you do!
