Emotional Beats
Nothing clinches the flow of a fictional scene like nailing the emotional beats. When motivation (a new thing) hits your characters, they ought to have a visceral, internal, and physical reaction in that order. Then they need to make a DECISION and act. Four things between the motivation and the new action. Four things and you’ve created active, emotionally knowable characters!
